Home Description

Description of the home

There's a lot to like about living in this secluded pocket of Clifton Hill. Proximity-wise, it's well connected to the city: a brief 10-minute walk to Clifton Hill train station, 15 minutes from trams on Queens Parade and High street, and the Capital City Bike Trail along the river is on your doorstep. Despite its proximity to the Inner North and the city's offerings, waking up to birds and green spaces along the Merri Creek or Yarra River is serene. It’s hard to believe you can feel like you’re so far out of the city while strolling along the creek or river here. Moreover, the Abbotsford Convent and Farm as well as Johnston St. are easily accessible with ample green spaces and parks nearby.

Our current housemate is going back to Italy and we're sad to see her go but excited to meet our new housemate. Open to shorter-term stays if you know the exact dates you will be moving in and out.

This has been my home for almost 9 years now and I've done my best to make it a comfortable space for living. It's a three-level townhouse with three bedrooms and two bathrooms upstairs, while the lower level hosts all the living areas and a small plant-filled courtyard. I have all modern living essentials like a fridge, washer, microwave, dishwasher, BBQ and Dyson vacuum; with split systems in all bedrooms and full-house ducted gas heating. The kitchen is well-equipped with most things you'd need. There’s no TV, and we prefer the living room not to be oriented around one. However, entertainment needs are met with an impressive home cinema featuring a projector (with an unobtrusive drop-down screen) and a hi-fi system. The bedroom can be partly furnished or empty. Off-street parking is always available on the quiet neighbourhood streets. There’s an all-round friendly atmosphere here, with families and dogs frequenting nearby parks. 'The Hill', is a local favourite spot known for its stunning city skyline views and sunsets, especially in the summer.

I've advertised elsewhere and in the past have had many inquiries to respond to. I apologise if I can't get to your message promptly but I will do my best to get back to you. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Bills and expenses

All the usuals - Electricity - Gas - Water - Internet, all split equally. I regularly compare providers to make sure we're getting the best deals to help keep expenses as low as possible. The Internet is 250mbs so there are never issues with it. The bond is one month's rent paid before the move-in date. All bills are transparently uploaded and managed in an App we use called 'Splitwise', which makes it convenient and simple to manage. We try to settle any current bills along with the rent each month.

About occupants
2 housemates: Sam and Marella.

SAM: Heya, I'm Sam. Originally from Queensland, I've called Melbourne home for nearly 16 years now. I'm embarking on my Master's in Clinical Psychology, working as a production assistant and volunteering my time as a crisis supporter for Lifeline. I'm enjoying a career change after the pandemic forced-close my business of 7 years. While I still yearn for the overseas living and adventures of my twenties and thirties, I've grown fond of exploring closer to home, indulging my love for the outdoors through hiking, biking, and camping whenever possible. I’m usually out for a walk along the river or hitting the gym most days and like to cook most of meals at home. I’d generally describe myself as an extroverted introvert. I’m mellowed out these days with most partying behind me - BUT I’ve definitely been around the block! My weeks are typically packed with study during semesters where I'm often WFH. Besides enjoying being outdoors, I love soaking up culture, going to galleries, seeing films and eating out with friends with the occasional show or movie thrown in for good measure. In other words: I’m your typical inner-city kind of person who loves doing all the kinds of things that typical inner-city people like to do.

MARELLA: Hi, I'm Marella. I'm 28 and I've recently moved to Australia from the UK to complete my PHD in Bioengineering at the Royal Children's Hospital for the next few years. I'm loving Melbourne. Life is jam-packed, I work at the hospital research lab 5 days a week and work on my dissertation in the eve, but in my spare time, I like to climb and explore the city. I recharge by chilling at home and binging shows or playing guitar and singing away in our beautiful home but get outdoors whenever I can. I love living with others and enjoy a home that feels lived in, hearing about your day and having good banter. Look forward to meeting you :)
Compatible people
We like a friendly, easy-going kind of household and do our best to be considerate of others and hope to find someone similar. We're not into drama and like living with people who are generally tidy and organised, though it's pretty relaxed. All we ask is you contribute something towards keeping up the house some of the time and share the load of things that need doing, which is usually pretty seldom as the house is generally tidy. If you clean up after yourself in common spaces for the next person to use freely then we’re on the same page. Melbourne is a smorgasbord of places to hang out so we generally choose to socialise outside of the house, though respect it is a home first so if we ever have anyone over we'll give you a heads up in advance. We're both pretty independent and like space and downtime to recharge, but appreciate hearing about what we've all been up to at the end of the day. Both of us like preparing quick, simple, healthy meals during busy weeks but up for sharing meals occasionally, or a movie (or both) together in this beautiful home. Feel free to ask questions or better yet, ask for a viewing. Look forward to meeting you.
