Although the room takes a queen bed, bedside tables and a book shelf easily, there's not much room for anything else. Certainly not a desk. Luckily the dining table is large and good as a co-working space. The 'own outdoor area' mentioned is the large shared balcony, which this bedroom has it's own access to. The private bathroom for this bedroom is directly across the hall. The laundry cupboard is also in this bathroom.

This is the larger master bedroom with the ensuite bathroom. It doesn't have its own access to the balcony, but you can access the balcony from the lounge. The bed is actually king size, not queen. The room has a little study nook with a small desk in front of a window, which makes the bedroom quite self-contained, but you'd probably still want to use the dining table as a co-working space.

Home Description

Description of the home

*Photos added 12 Jan*

I have a long lease on an apartment overlooking the river in Abbotsford and look forward to sharing it with short, medium and longer term housemates. Perfect if you're travelling, in Melbourne for work, or looking for a house share, for a few weeks to a few months. Longer term if we're a good fit.

It's a modern, bright (floor to ceiling windows), nearly new 2 bedroom apartment. Fully furnished throughout and tastefully decorated with original art. There is a small storage cage in the basement in case we need to swap some furniture around, however there is not much storage, so this will not suit someone with all their own furniture. We can probably store a bed, shelves, fridge and some boxes. Ideally you will be travelling light!

The apartment is in a large secure complex, but it's probably one of the best. The bedrooms are not large, but at least each bedroom has it's own over-sized bathroom and built in robes. The larger master bedroom has the ensuite bathroom. For the smaller second bedroom, the bathroom is directly across the hall. The balcony (with the view over the river) is huge, with sliding doors from the second bedroom, and from the lounge room. There are plenty of pot plants and two outdoor settings, both with umbrellas.

This is very much executive quality apartment style living, so won't be for everyone - especially not if you want a garden, or a spare room to store stuff in, or to be able to walk out the front door and immediately jump in your car! There is some parking nearby, but this complex can't get parking permits, so you'll have to consider the parking restrictions (during business hours mainly). It's awesome for public transport though.

Some nice things about this place: The aesthetics. Nature. Sunning on the balcony. Listening to the birds. Quiet (depending on the direction of the wind, you can hear the freeway some days, but otherwise quiet). Privacy. The location - 5 minutes walk to the Abbotsford Convent, Dights Falls or the train station. Water filter. Apple music. Two roomy couches in the lounge. The balcony (except when raining or a heat wave). The view is extraordinary.

On the other hand, it's compact so we will really need to work well together. I'm not attached to either bedroom, so both rooms are listed. They both have their own large bathrooms. The smaller bedroom has direct balcony access, the larger bedroom has the bathroom as ensuite and the study nook, so it depends on what you prefer!

Bills and expenses

Bills are consistent at about $80 per week for electricity, gas, water, internet and phone (voip phone with free national calls and cheap overseas calls) so we'd pay a flat rate of $40 each per week for bills.

About the occupants
Hi, I'm Stephen

I work in the not-for-profit, social enterprise, health & medical, education, research and startup areas. It's passion-driven work and I love the change we are making in health at the moment. I'm well educated, well spoken, socially capable and emotionally aware. True!

I work a longish week, travel occasionally, and have plenty of things to do, so you won't find me watching TV on the couch too much - although I could be dragged into a netflix series occasionally. I watch the SBS world news but its usually too depressing. I never watch commercial channels. I'm often on the laptop though.

I hardly ever 'cook' unless it can be done in my favourite cast iron pan. I eat lots of salad wraps and like making complex roast vegetable salads (nutritionally compete meals with nuts, seeds, tofu, etc). I'm generally vegetarian. My food choices are as much for ethical as health reasons, and I'm gradually getting more conscious about that.

I prefer to wash up as I go and leave the bench clean (which is important because its a very small kitchen bench!) and rarely use the dishwasher - no point at all in having the things you regularly use sitting in a unhygienic humidifier waiting days for a full load!

I'm easy to get along with, comfortable in all age groups, a good conversationalist, but equally happy with quiet too, interested in health, yoga and meditation, art, culture, philosophy, personal growth, a world view, anything cause-related or entrepreneurial. I love travel and want to do more of that. Mostly just a respectful human. I take some pride in making a apartment in a fancy complex feel like a home.
Compatible people
I expect that we will be considerate of noise and each other's movements. It's a small space so I think of it as more of a retreat than an entertainer. An occasional dinner party or drinks on the balcony with friends would be great though. I'm thoughtful, clean and respectful so would want the same. :)
